Accessing the Bioinformatics Core Data Server
(Mac OSX)

Access to the Bioinformatics Core Data Server is based on the Active Directory infrastructure in place on the WSU network.  Before continuing, please make sure that you have:

1)     Activated your Active Directory account

2)     Submitted the access request to the Bioinformatics Core

Once you have received confirmation of access to the server from the Bioinformatics Core, you can then access the data stored on the server.  To accomplish this, please follow the simple instructions below.

1. Begin by clicking the “Go” menu and selecting “Connect to server…” from the drop-down menu.

2. In the Connect to Server… dialog box, type in smb://bioinfo-serv1.ad.wsu.edu  Click the “Connect” button.

3. If the connection was successful, you will be prompted for a user name and password. This is the same information that you use to authenticate with your authentication
server. Your authentication server is either AD, CAHE, or VETMED. You will also need to put your authentication server in the “Workgroup/Domain” dialog box to connect successfully.  If you are not sure which server you authenticate with, contact your IT staff or the Bioinformatics Core for assistance. Enter your Username and Password and click “OK.”

NOTE: You are required to put your authentication server (i.e. AD, CAHE, or VETMED) in the “Workgroup/Domain” dialog box as indicated in the above two examples to log in to the server. If you do not you will have errors trying to connect and access your data.

4. Once connected and authenticated, you will see the following window.  Choose “PI_Folders” from the drop-down menu and then click “OK.”

5. The “PI_Folders” folder will now be mounted to and available on your desktop.  To locate and access your data, double-click the “PI_Folders” folder.  In the next window locate your lab based on the PI’s last name and open the folder.  All available data will be within this folder.  Please copy any desired data on to your own computer before attempting to access the file.
